NHR provides much needed entertainment to patients staying in the major hospitals of Nottingham. As well as operating a 24/7 broadcast radio service, NHR volunteers can often been seen on the wards interacting with patients.

Going for Gold

We're currently practicing running along a grey and wet beach to the Chariots of Fire music. Well, we would be if there was a beach in Nottingham that lasted more than one week and wasn't labelled "Sand Pit".

However, we are taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon rasing money for NHR. Seriously, hospital radio is a great way of making that long stay in hospital a bit more bareable and provides a personal, approachable service by making visits to the wards. Any currency you could throw our way would be much appreciated.

Shock and Awe

We are literally in shock at the moment and currently checking all our old lottery tickets after finding out that we've won some awards at the HBA National Hospital Radio Awards. The last time we managed that one, John Major was in power!

The first of our awards goes to the very talented team behind Tuesday's Your Choice request show. They won Silver for Show with Multiple Presenters. An award that was only just launched this year. Why not check it out below:

Congratulations in Order

While the film industry might have the Oscars, here in hospital radio we have the HBA National Hospital Radio Awards. They may not be on the telly but they are a big deal for us. And to top that, we can reveal that we've been shortlisted for a number of awards:

NHR's Top 500

Why is that week between Christmas and New Year always so awkward? Well, to fill that strange gap, we counted down our 500 favourite songs. It's not your usual countdown of best sellers and some of the songs will catch you out!

Here's the list of songs we love at NHR:

It's Christmas Time...

With apologies to the Band Aid singers! But seriously, it's approaching that time of the year again. In most places that means turning the lights out and going home.

However, we'll still be beavering away over the Christmas and New Year period. The big day itself sees our very own Sophie interviewing Nottingham legend and fashion big-wig Paul Smith.

Fashion Icon on the Wireless?

We’re a stylish bunch here at NHR, but we’re about to get even more fashionable! We’ll be chatting to one of fashion’s greatest designers Sir Paul Smith, very soon. On 13th November, Nottingham’s Hospital Radio will be recording a talk with our city’s finest designer; quizzing him on his career so far, his love of cycling and of course, about the city he grew up in.

From Start to Finish

Ever wondered what the Robin Hood Half Marathon course looks like from the point of view of a dummy riding a hospital bed? Me neither but it's certainly a unique viewpoint on things. Why not check it out in the video below we made as the NHR team ran the course on Sunday?

The End of the Road

After several gruelling miles round the city of Nottingham, our team finished the Robin Hood Half Marathon at a lightning pace (well, certianly compared to anything my unfit self could do). We're proud of them and the effort they've put into helping raise money to support NHR's efforts.

However, some of them were also able to take some pictures from along the route. Why not check them out here.

Back on the Road Again

What happens when you take a team of volunteers who train for a run by going to a buffet two days before? Well, you'll find out as NHR's team take to the road in the Robin Hood Half Marathon tomorrow.

If you're in Nottingham tomorrow, be sure to cheer on the team running with a dummy and stretcher with the hope of raising money for NHR. And no, the dummy isn't one of the team!

However, if you can't wait until tomorrow. Check out the pictures of the team preparing here.

Spelndour Festival 2012

It's not often you get a local music festival on your doorstep. However, two of NHR's young, budding presenters were all too keen to get down to Wollaton hall and check out what happened for us.

Not only did they come back with a number of great photos, we also have had numerous interviews airing over the last week or two on NHR. On top of that, Rob Green will be in later this evening to play a couple of songs from his new album live on NHR.
