NHR provides much needed entertainment to patients staying in the major hospitals of Nottingham. As well as operating a 24/7 broadcast radio service, NHR volunteers can often been seen on the wards interacting with patients.

Bank Holidays Are Coming

In case you haven't noticed, there may be a bank holiday or two coming up at the beginning of April. After about ten minutes of mulling things over, we think we've come up with a plan for Easter 2015.

Things will be "as per normal" on Good Friday with Your Choice in the evening. Your chance to make your choice of music happen on the radio.

Saturday will see live sports coverage from 2pm and Sunday follows the normal schedule, lead by Kev Castle from 9am.

Top 50 Most Requested of 2014

Throughout 2014 (and they previous 39 years before that), you've been requesting songs on NHR. It's kinda what happens at hospital radio stations.

After a bolt of genius (or was it from the dodgy wiring), we've put together the top 50 artists you've been requesting over the last year. There's a few surprises in there as we found out counting them down to the bells at the New Year.

Ho Ho Show?!?

With the festive season upon us, we've been almost as busy as Santa working on special programs we'll be airing across Christmas and New Year.

It all kicks on on Christmas Day with a special show for Christmas Morning from 10am. We then flash through the decades with Non-Stop 80s, 70s and 60s between midday and 3pm.

Her Majesty The Queen herself will be delivering her annual message at 3pm. We'll then be following with Best of British (yeah, we know - a bit obvious).

It's Like Radio with Pictures!

The award winning NHR is now "as seen on TV" famous. We appeared on the BBC's Inside Out program (East Midlands edition) on Monday as part of a section on hospital radio.

You can find out a bit more about what we do, check out our Chairman's amazing door opening skills and see snippets about NHR's 40 year history by simply clicking here.

Best of British Bank Holiday

You can probably guess what we're going to be doing on the 25th August purely on the name. The Best of British Bank Holiday will be a day of music purely from British artists.

We'll be going as far back as the 60s with the Beatles and Rolling Stones and running all the way up to the modern classics of the last few years.

While we'll be the first to admit we're probably stretching the defenition of "British" with some songs and artists, it's certainly something a bit different for a rainy bank holiday Monday.

Going for Bronze?

It's awards season again for Hospital Radio in the UK. However, it turns out that NHR's walked away with a trophy for the second year in a row.

This time, it's a Bronze for Station Promotion. Which happens to be one of the trophies we won last year as well.

It's All Gone to the Dogs

Well, it's not quite all gone to the dogs. But you can by supporting NHR in making patients' stays in hospital more enjoyable and enjoying a night of dog racing at the same time!

On the 7th of February, Colwick Greyhound Stadium will be hosting a charity night of racing starting at 7:15 and running through to about 10:15. It's usually ten to twelve races over a night.

So You Win Again (Hopefully)

Admittedly, quoting the lyrics of Hot Chocolate might not be the coolest thing in the world to do. However, we do want to blow our own trumpet a bit. We've only gone and got shortlisted in the HBA Hospital Radio Awards 2014 for the second year in a row.

We've been sortlisted in the Best Station Promotion (which we got Bronze in last year), Best Male Presenter (Rajiv's still not returned from orbit since the shortlist was announced) and Station of the Year.

Run for Home!

It's nothing to do with Lindisfarne other than we play their song regularly on NHR. It actually turns out that we've got a team running in the IKANO Robin Hood Half Marathon. The twist... they're taking a stretcher and a not so willing patient with them.

Why not track the team online and in real time here or support the team by donating. You can do that by texting BEDS13 £(ammount) to 70070 or using PayPal on the left hand side of this page.

Oh, I Do Like to be Beside the Riverside?!?

If I said music, water and the riverside, what would come to mind? Probably a nice trip up a canal with some nice ditties playing the background.

Well, we attempted to recreate that idilic image by playing some of the finest music we could get our mits on down at the Riverside festival this past weekend. Why not check out the pictures we took from the banks of the mighty river Trent.
